Your own Fortnox alternative. Self-hosted in Sweden.

Accounted is the open-source AI accounting software. We deploy and operate your own instance on our own hardware in Falkenberg — almost as smooth as one-click, but with real people behind it. You own and control all your data, and it never leaves Sweden.

What is Accounted?

The open-source accounting software — built for agents.

Accounted is a Swedish open-source accounting system (AGPL-3.0): BAS bookkeeping, invoicing, VAT reporting, SIE export and seven years of archive — with an open REST API and an MCP server so AI agents can post, invoice and report for you.

Because the whole engine is open, it can be self-hosted. That is where we come in: Kepler runs your instance on our own Swedish hardware, handles operations, updates and backups — so you never have to choose between cloud convenience and owning your company's most important dataset.

01

Open source

AGPL-3.0. No black box, no lock-in — audit how every entry is validated.

02

API + MCP

Built agent-first. Your code and your AI agents talk straight to the books.

03

SIE4 out, always

Your bookkeeping is exportable whenever you want. Move in — and out — with no ransom.

How it works

Almost one-click. Real people behind it.

No wizard that leaves you alone with a broken database. You order — an engineer deploys, configures and hands over a finished instance on your domain.

STEP 01

Order your instance

Tell us your company name and preferred domain. We provision a single-tenant instance on our own node in Falkenberg — database, TLS and encryption included.

~5 min for you
STEP 02

Log in and start bookkeeping

You get a login on your own domain, usually the same day. Moving from Fortnox, Bokio or Visma? Import via SIE — we help if you want.

Done within one business day
STEP 03

We operate. You own.

Updates, security patches, around-the-clock monitoring and hourly backups — our job. The data, the instance and the exports — yours.

Develop & integrate

It’s your platform. Build on it.

That is the whole point of self-hosting: you don't just use the books — you develop against them. We set up a CI/CD pipeline to your instance so you can keep building and deploying straight to your own environment. Connect any git client — GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or your own Git — and push changes right in.

Your own modules, your own integrations, your own automations on top of an open API and an MCP server. That is something a closed 199 kr cloud service can never give you — there you rent a product; here you own a platform.

01

CI/CD to your instance

Push to main → deploy to your own environment. We set up the pipeline, you keep building.

02

Any git client

GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or your own Git — plug in what you already use. Your workflow, not ours.

03

Open API + MCP

Build agents, integrations and custom modules straight against the books — full access, no lock-in.

Always included

Stable, reliable — and provably yours.

Backup

Hourly backups 60 min

Automatic backup every hour, encrypted, with up to 90 days of retention. Restore the whole instance to any hour — not just "last night".

Ownership

Your data, full stop

Your own instance, your own database, no shared tables. Full export of database and files whenever you want, plus SIE4 straight out of the system.

Jurisdiction

Hosted in Sweden

Own hardware in Falkenberg, Swedish company, Swedish jurisdiction. Accounting data under GDPR with no third-country transfers — see Trust.

Operations

Updates & patches

We follow Accounted's releases, test and roll out. Security patches are prioritized the same day. You mostly notice it in the changelog.

Monitoring

24/7 with humans

The instance is monitored around the clock. Something deviates — an engineer acts, not an auto-reply. Swedish support on weekdays, on-call for real incidents.

Scale

Grows with the company

More volume, more users, an agency portfolio? We move the instance to larger resources with no downtime — same data, same domain.

Comparison

Cloud service or self-hosted on Kepler?

Accounted's own cloud service is excellent for most. Self-hosting is for you who want — or must — own the operations: policy requirements, procurement, or simply the principle that a company's bookkeeping should sit with the company.

Honestly: Kepler is independent of Accounted. We operate the software under its open license (AGPL-3.0) — if you would rather have their cloud service, that is the right choice here. Integrations such as bank and government filing are configured per installation; we go through what applies to your instance before you decide.

FAQ

Self-hosted Accounted, straight up.

Is Accounted a real Fortnox alternative?
For bookkeeping, invoicing, VAT and reporting — yes, with open source and API-first as the difference. You move in via SIE import from Fortnox, Bokio, Visma and any system with SIE export. And unlike a closed SaaS, you can always move out again.
What does "almost one-click" mean?
That you don't click at all — you order, and an engineer deploys your instance with TLS, encryption and backups configured correctly from the start. You usually have a login the same day. It's slower than a button by seconds, faster than a button followed by three weeks of debugging.
How do the backups work?
The whole instance — database and files — is backed up every hour, encrypted, to separate storage in Sweden. Retention up to 90 days depending on plan. If you need to restore, we do it to any hour, and you can request a full export at any time.
Who owns the data?
You. The instance is single-tenant and the database is yours. Kepler is the data processor for operations — Swedish hardware, Swedish company, Swedish jurisdiction, no third-country transfers. If you cancel you get a complete export and we delete provably.
Do bank connections and tax-authority filing work on a self-hosted instance?
It depends on the integration — some services require agreements or keys signed per installation. We go through exactly what applies to your needs before you order, so there are no surprises. Manual bank import (CSV) and SIE always work.
Can we develop against and customise the instance?
Yes — that is the whole idea. We set up a CI/CD pipeline to your instance so you can deploy your own code straight to your environment, and you connect any git client (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or your own Git). On top of the open API and MCP server you build your own modules, integrations and automations. A closed cloud service never lets you do that.
Can you operate other open source for us?
Yes. Accounted is a packaged offering, but the same model — we operate, you own — works for most things that run on a node. Describe your system and we cost it out.

The books are the company's memory. Own them.
